The City That Raised Her

She stares up at the clouds,

Watching the shapes pass by,

As she lets cigarette smoke

Drown her lungs,.

A sigh escaping from her lips,

Wondering why life can’t always

Be this simple.

This plain.

This free.

She flicks her cigarette to the

Streets below,

Mixing it in with the litter

Crippling these streets.

She dreams of her escape

From this place,

But remains trapped

In the city that raised her.
